Wine harvest betwwen baroque and world culture

Lower Franconia is the home region of Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, Walther von der Vogelweide, Tilman Riemenschneider and Dirk Nowitzki. Then there’s also Balthasar Neumann, who carved out his place in history as one of the greatest Baroque architects of all and left his mark in many places around Lower Franconia. The Würzburger Residence (palace), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Pilgrimage Church Visitation of Maria as well as the city’s first water pipes are all attributed to him. Neumann’s works also include Palace Werneck as well as the spa gardens and spa centre in Bad Kissingen. At one time, the German emperor and kings used to go there when they needed to recuperate from the rigours of ruling.

The real heart of Lower Franconia is Würzburg, where the regional government is based. The Bishop’s city is a hub for all those travelling in Franconia. This is where Bavaria’s route of delightfully flavourful wines - the Franconian Bocksbeutelstraße begins.
