Upper Palatinate
One man visiting from China wrote “The best thing I saw in Germany” on the Internet, though it remains unknown how long he had spent in Germany and which sights were on his itinerary. Still, one has to wonder how the Golf Museum in Regensburg moved him to express such praise (as it did 100 other visitors). If one happens to be in the capital of the Upper Palatinate, ambling through the alleys of the old town, then on to Germany’s oldest bridge - the Steinerne Brücke - and finally out of the city to the Walhalla, the memorial where praiseworthy German-speaking men and women are honoured, is an absolute must. It offers a rewarding view of the Danube and the natural splendour of Upper Palatinate. Then there’s the sport of sports: the annual Sandboarding World Championship on Monte Kaolino, a 120-metre high sand dune near Hirschau.
